CELEBRATE NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK
When much that we hold dear is under attack, it is good to remember that the library is a community asset, open and welcoming to all. The Friends are a proud supporter of the Berkeley Public Library. We thank Mayor Adena Ishii and the City Council for issuing a Proclamation in appreciation of National Library Week, spotlighting the many outstanding attributes of our Library, including “protect(ing) the right to read, think, and explore without censorship, standing as champions of intellectual freedom and free expression.” Take heart and visit the Library!
APRIL 2025
at the CENTRAL LIBRARY BOOKSTORE:
APRIL 1 – 5: NO FOOLING : April is Poetry Month! The Academy of American Poets reports that this is the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers – marking poetry’s important place in our lives. We’re celebrating with hundreds of books of poems, poetry collections, and poet biographies. From the famous to the not-so-famous, come and experience the wide world of artfully arranged words on paper. Prices range from $1 to $5 … and all poetry journals will be free! The sale runs this week on our sale table, then continues inside the store for the rest of the month.
APRIL 7 – 12: We’re ready, (even eager) to share our overflowing mystery collection with you. Mysteries normally sell for $2 each but this week only they’re just 50¢. You’ll find classics and contemporary favorites, and likely that missing Louise Penny, Donna Leon or Michael Connelly volume too.
APRIL 14 – 19: Time for a “Sea of DVDs.” We’ve been inundated with several large DVD collections (and a moment of thanks to ALL donors — keep them coming), but our cozy workroom is a bit overwhelmed. Both single disk and multi-disk movies will be featured. Do float on in.
APRIL 21 – 26: Spring is coming! We plan two smaller and calmer sales: gardening Books and vintage children’s books.
POST THIS ON YOUR REFRIGERATOR SO YOU WON’T MISS ANYTHING!
• Heavy-duty Tote Bags $5 • Ephemera (pamphlets, booklets, etc.) •
Postcards (25¢) • Multi-disk CDs • Comics (and graphic novels) for kids and adults • Greeting cards 25¢ • Maps (old and new) • Friends of the Library T-Shirts for all ages $15
at the CHANNING BOOKSTORE :
Matching the sale at Central…Who dunit? No-mystery – our generous donors, that’s who! Our donations, shelves and tables overflow with mysteries, thrillers and crime drama. All your favorite authors and gumshoes. Hard and soft cover, all will be 50¢ each.
