Join the Friends, renew your membership, apply to be a volunteer, or donate securely online:

  • NEW MEMBERS: Click HERE to complete the online Membership form, donate, or pay membership dues. Standard membership is $25/year. You will be directed to a PayPal page, where you can use a credit card, or an existing PayPal account.
  • EXISTING MEMBERS: click button below to donate and/or pay dues through PayPal. Standard membership renewal is $25/year, and $25 of any donation will be accepted as a new or renewing membership. Donations in any amount above the membership amount are always welcome and gratefully acknowledged. Through PayPal, the donation page allows you to pay with a credit card, or pay with your PayPal account.

The Berkeley Bookmark is included in your Friends’ membership and is mailed to members quarterly. The Friends of the Berkeley Public Library is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and memberships are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. The Friends’ federal tax ID number is 51-0193030.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Friends, contributing thousands of hours of service each year as book store volunteers, special project coordinators, and board members. Download a printable volunteer application here.

The bookstores are staffed by more than one hundred volunteers. Two- and three-hour shifts are available and additional volunteers are always welcome. Training is provided. Bookselling opportunities include:
